Executive must get down to business after election

We have so many serious issues confronting us that after the votes are counted, it’s essential for politicians to form an Executive without delay.

There can be no dragging of feet. The public want to see action where it’s needed, not more division and tribal conflict.

Health has to be the top priority. There are so many aspects of the Health Service that require urgent attention that it’s hard to know where to make a start.

But make a start, we must.

We need to fix Primary Care. Sort out serious medical staff shortages. Invest in services and work in a coordinated way to reduce appalling waiting lists – the worst in the UK.

Thousands of our people are waiting for appointments, and for health bureaucrats to issue feeble apologies to people who are suffering doesn’t cut it any more.

Health requires a massive injection of money and that can only happen if an Executive is formed.

That’s what I will be pressing for on my first day as an MLA for Lagan Valley. Further deterioration cannot be allowed!
